Get Started with Backengine 1/3
Published on: 22 Nov 2023
Part 1: Creating a project and linking GitHub
In this blog series, we'll walk through the steps of getting started with Backengine, a powerful product that will revolutionize the way you build your apps with AI.
This is part one of a three part series. In this part we'll sign up to Backengine, create a project and link the project to our Github account.
1. Sign Up (it's free to try!)
Visit https://app.backengine.dev/sign-up and sign up for a 7 day free trial. Fill in your details and create an account to get started.
2. Create your first project
After logging in navigate to the dashboard page. Here you can see all your Backengine projects.
As we' ve just signed up we have no projects, let's change that! To create a project click CREATE PROJECT then type the name of the project and click CREATE. Your project includes a Postgres DB, authentication and ultimately a Next.js app (with hooks generated off your database schema).
Create a Project Page
3. Connect to GitHub
Great! Now our project has been successfully created we can see the project page. This shows the 4 steps required to go from nothing to a deployed app on Vercel. First step is to connect to GitHub. Click CONNECT.
This will redirect us to GitHub. Choose the default options including all repositories (we need this as we haven't created the Backengine repo yet) and click INSTALL.
Backengine App Installation
Returning to the project page we can see our repo was successfully created.
Project Page with GitHub Repo
Click on the newly displayed GitHub repo link to view the repo.
Empty GitHub Repo
The GitHub repository is currently empty. In the next part of this series we'll change this by creating our database schema and generating a Next.js frontend. Join us in part two.
